How the track works
From participant to certified trainer
Take the full training
You first take the full Crucial training (classroom or Live Online) with a master trainer. Only the full training qualifies for certification — an On-Demand version does not count.
Complete the trainer course (2 days, sometimes 1)
You take the certification course, taught by a Master Trainer — two days, and for some programmes one day (classroom or Live Online). You practise with a cognitive content review, a 15-minute teachback with coaching, the videos and exercises, and the VitalSmarts Instructional Platform (VIP).
Provisional certification
After the trainer course you are provisionally certified and may — with the guidance of your Master Trainer — facilitate the programme in any modality (classroom or online).
Full certification
Deliver three courses within twelve months and report them through the Trainer Zone. You are then a fully certified Crucial trainer.

Questions about train-the-trainer
Who can become a Crucial trainer?+
HR and L&D professionals and (informal) leaders within your organisation. You have basic experience in communication or training and the ambition to develop colleagues.
Do I have to take the training myself first?+
Yes. You first take the full regular training with an Epic master trainer, then the trainer course. An On-Demand training does not count towards certification.
Which programmes can I get certified for?+
Crucial Conversations, Crucial Accountability, Getting Things Done, The Power of Habit and Crucial Influence (Influencer).
How long is the trainer course and when am I fully certified?+
The trainer course takes two days (one day for some programmes). You are fully certified once you have delivered three courses within twelve months and reported them through the Trainer Zone.
What do I get after certification?+
A Trainer Guide and Trainer Bag, access to the VitalSmarts Instructional Platform (VIP) and the Trainer Zone with tools, videos and exercises, plus a 60-day On-Demand licence.
