Training Crucial Influence

Behavior change is a science. Learn how the six sources of influence break through blockages that stop everyone else, and start movement where others stall.

Most change efforts fail because they lean on a single source of influence: just a training, or just a new tool. Crucial Influence is built on fifty years of social science research and shows you how to design an influence strategy that actually moves people. In one day we apply that directly to the change you are responsible for. You learn to identify the vital behaviors that drive most of the result. Then you stop pushing and start designing an environment where the desired behavior becomes the obvious choice: motivation and ability, at the personal, social and structural level. This is the training for anyone accountable for results without the authority to demand them. You leave with an influence plan you can start on Monday.

About this training

Classroom-based, in groups of four to twenty participants. One intensive day, roughly 40% theory and 60% work on your own case: short knowledge blocks, video cases from real change efforts, diagnostic exercises in pairs, peer consultation on each other's challenges and direct coaching from the trainer. You will receive the workbook, a canvas for your influence plan and access to the digital learning environment. You finish with the Epic People certificate of participation.

Who is Training Crucial Influence for?

This training is built for: Change managers and transformation leads who need an organization-wide change to stick. Agile coaches who want to shift the mindset of an entire department. Policy makers and strategists who want their plans carried out instead of filed away. Program directors dealing with resistance across very different stakeholders.

What will this training give you?

Grounded in research. Built on the Crucial Learning method, drawn from fifty years of social science research.

Focused on results. We target behavior that demonstrably moves profitability or efficiency, not behavior that reads well in a plan.

Hands-on. You spend the day working on your own change project, not a fictional case.

One day, one plan. You go home with a finished influence plan, not a binder full of theory.

What participants took away

I like the interactive nature of the course with the other participants and found the videos really informative and interesting. Andrew provided great insight on the different aspects in the course and a good dynamic to the course

How is the training structured?

1

Morning — The diagnosis. You name the vital behaviors behind your change effort and map where it is stalling right now, in the personal and social domain.

2

Afternoon — The strategy. You add the structural sources (rewards and environment) and combine all six sources into one coherent influence plan for your own case.
